School of Art Photography student wins Bowness Photography prize

Lee Grant, has won this year’s prestigious $25 000 William and Winifred Bowness Photography Prize at the Monash Gallery of Art in Melbourne. The photograph was selected from approximately 2,000 photographs submitted by 473 entrants.


Lee’s winning work titled Mary with her daughters Aja and Adau, and her granddaughter Nankir is a formal portrait of a Sudanese migrant family set in their home in Canberra and forms part of a series titled New Australians: Sudanese migrants in suburbia.

Lee Grant is currently completing a Master of Philosophy in the School of Art’s department of Photography & Media Arts. Some of her works are currently on show as part of the Goethe-Institut show currently in the School of Art Gallery: HIJACKED 2: Germany and Australia.
